I’m a nurse practitioner, a scientist, a builder, and — like millions of others — a daughter helping care for an aging parent while raising young kids.

I’m Dr. Tina Sadarangani, an Assistant Professor at New York University and a board-certified adult and geriatric nurse practitioner. I’m also a PhD-prepared, NIH-funded scientist overseeing a research portfolio focused on improving care for people with Alzheimer’s disease and their families.
I’m a “sandwich generation” caregiver myself — with an aging parent and young children — which is why this work has never been abstract to me. I’ve built a growing movement to help families, especially immigrant families, care for a chronically ill loved one inside a complex and fragmented healthcare system. I’ve published extensively on care for underserved and community-based older adults in peer-reviewed journals, including the American Journal of Public Health.
With support from the National Institutes of Health, I created CareMobi™, an award-winning mobile app out of my NYU lab that helps families caring for a loved one with dementia communicate around day-to-day care. I’m also the creator of The Enlightened Caregiver, a movement that gives families practical guidance on how to get optimal — not usual — care for the people they love. Together, this work has reached more than 5,000 families and eldercare organizations nationwide.
One mission, five vantage points
Most people meet me through one part of my work — the app, an article, a study, a clinic visit. They’re all the same job from different angles: helping families navigate a system that wasn’t built for them.
Clinician
At the bedside
As a board-certified adult and geriatric nurse practitioner, I care for older adults and the families who carry them. The exam room is where the questions start — and where I keep myself honest about whether the research and tools actually help.
Scientist
In the lab
I’m a PhD-prepared, NIH-funded scientist leading a multi-million-dollar research portfolio on dementia and Alzheimer’s care, family caregiving, and older-adult nutrition for underserved communities — with 60+ peer-reviewed publications, including work in the American Journal of Public Health.
Founder
In your hands
I created CareMobi™, an award-winning, NIH-funded app built in my NYU lab that helps families and care teams communicate around the day-to-day care of a loved one with dementia.
Public voice
On the record
Through The Enlightened Caregiver and features in the New York Times, Associated Press, and Wall Street Journal, I translate complex, frightening care decisions into plain language families can act on.
Community leader
In the community
The community is my clinic. I do hands-on work with local families and partner organizations — meeting people where they are, not where the system expects them to be.
